ABOUT US
The Australian Tissue Engineering Centre Limited (ATEC) facilitates research into the regeneration of new body parts from manufactured matrices and cultured cells. The Good Laboratory Practice (GLP) facility provides preclinical testing of tissue engineering products for product development that comply with Food and Drug Administration and Therapeutic Goods Administration regulations.
ATEC provides contract R&D and testing services to biotechnology research institutes and companies and remains a platform for commercialising innovative research emerging from Melbourne’s renowned Bernard O’Brien Institute of Microsurgery. The tissue engineering research program builds on the existing capabilities of ATEC partners, which include the Australian Stem Cell Centre, The Bernard O’Brien Institute of Microsurgery and the Particulate Fluids Processing Centre at Melbourne University. ATEC provides an extensive range of tissue engineering services including (but not limited to) in vitro and in vivo bio-toxicity and bio-stability analysis; formulation stability testing; angiogenesis inhibition and augmentation assays; stem cell isolation, propagation, implantation and differentiation analyses; tissue and cell matrix formulation, surface modification, and optimization; and a variety of unique in vivo models for target tissue growth and expansion (including cardiac, pancreatic, adipose, and liver tissue) based on the use of proprietary tissue engineering chambers in small and large animal models.
